If your property has an asphalt driveway, then you need to make sure that it’s sealed. If you don’t seal your asphalt driveway, water will permeate any cracks present in the asphalt and settle down towards the base, thereby compromising its strength and often resulting in potholes. The following are a few tips for sealing your asphalt driveway:
Before you begin sealing your driveway, make sure that the ground temperature is 45 degrees Fahrenheit or hotter. Check the weather as well and make sure it’s not expected to rain for at least three days.
Wear plenty of protection to avoid inhaling the vapors given off by the sealant and to avoid skin contact.
Remove grass that’s overhanging the edges of your driveway. Sweep the entire driveway clean using a push broom.
Hose down the driveway to remove dirt and then let it dry.
Turn the tub of sealant upside down to mix the contents. Then stir periodically. Use thin overlapping coats using a squeegee or a long-handled brush.
Allow the sealant to dry for 24 hours before using the driveway.
Be sure to use these driveway sealing tips to ensure that you do a proper sealing job in a safe manner.
